Evaluation of replacing the urea formaldehyde adhesive in the core layer of particleboard with melamine veneer paper waste

Abstract
Background and aims: The aim of this research is possibility of using the waste of the laminated paper lines of melamine considering as an alternative to the adhesive to make three-layer particleboard at the laboratory level.
Method and materials: In this study, the amount of replacement of the laminates of the melamine coated paper on the core layer relative to the urea formaldehyde adhesive In 4 levels 0,20,40,60 percent dry gum weight was used to save and reduce adhesive consumption which was performed at the laboratory level with 5 replications. Mechanical and physical resistivity of produced boards as including flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, internal adhesion, screw resistance, density, thickness swelling and water absorption after 2 and 24 hours immersion in water was measured according to EN standards.
Results: The results show that increasing of powder coated weld bending strength, elastic modulus, density the strength of the screw on the surface and the cores of the board and the internal adhesion of the board are reduced to the control sample. But according to National Iranian Standard 9044 the values reached up to 40% of the coating powder were more than standard. Also, by increasing the lining coating powder, increased the percentage of thickness swelling and water absorption in 2 and 24 hours of immersion and density.
Conclusions: Based on Iran's 9044 National Standard, which has a 13-MP Fault Module the values reached up to 40% of the coating powder were more than standard, therefore, it can be said that even with the addition of 40% of the powdered lining of the sample in the brain, these boards are suitable for indoor furniture for use in dry conditions with synthetic sheathed capability. Therefore, by replacing the melamine coating with the glue of formaldehyde in the board bracket, while reducing the adhesive consumption and releasing formaldehyde, it can be produced panels with a resistance to the standard of Iran.
