Investigating the possibility of producing Leptadenia pyrotechnica (Forssk.) Decne., Periploca aphylla Decne. And Vitex agnus-castus L. shrubs
Background and Objective:The use of indigenous herbaceous species in the plantation and urban green space seems to be necessary due to their adaptation and low water requirements. Species of Leptadenia pyrotechnica, Periploca aphyla and Vitex agnous-castus are native species of Hormozgan province that are not only beautifully landscaped but also fully compatible with the drought and dehydration of the region. Therefore, this research was conducted to investigate the possibility of seedlings production of Leptadenia pyrotechnica, Periploca aphyla and Vitex agnous-castus shrubs in Hormozgan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center in 2015.
Materials and Methods: Seedlings were produced using two replication methods through seed and cutting. Propagation pretreatments included seed placement in sulfuric acid for 3 minutes, sulfuric acid for 6 minutes and sulfuric acid for 9 minutes, boiling water for 24 hours, boiling water for 48 hours and boiling water for 72 hours and sand scrubbing and soaking in normal water (control) and the proliferation treatment through cuttings using IBA (Indol Butiric Acid) hormone with 500 ppm for 1 minute.
Results:The results showed that the best treatment for germination of Leptadenia pyrotechnica’s seeds and Periploca aphylla species was 72 hours of boiling water, which had 100% germination. The highest percentage of germination of Vitex agnus-castus’s seeds was in treatment of scrubbing were 20% in germination. The study of sprout seedlings showed that the species of Vitex agnus-castus and Leptadenia pyrotechnica responded to the hormone more than the control condition, and 100% of the cuttings were produced by the hormone. Meanwhile, the Periploca aphylla did not propagate through the cuttings.
Conclusion: Cuttings can be used for the production of Vitex agnous-castus seedlings, but two species of Leptadenia pyrotechnica and Periploca aphyla can be replicated through seed and boiled water for 72 hours. Of course, for Periploca aphyla, both cuttings and seeds are appropriate, but it is natural for reproduction on a large scale that the seed is more economical and easier. Due to the fact that all three selected species are native to Hormozgan province, and due to the distribution range and elevation range, the presence of all three species, Therefore, there is no limitation for use in the plantation and urban green spaces of Bandar Abbas in terms of climate and ecology for all three species studied.
