Abstract

In this research, effects of using short glass fiber on mechanical properties of MDF dust-PP composite were investigated. Short glass fibers with 3 mm in length were prepared. Sanding dust of MDF as lignocellulose material and polypropylene as the thermoplastic material were used.. MAPP as coupling agent to the rate of 4% by weight was used. 36 boards (12 treatments in 3 replicates) with nominal density of 1 gr/cm3 and dimensions of 30 × 20 × 1 cm3 using hot pressing method were produced. Afterward, samples were kept in room temperature conditions for 2 weeks. Then, mechanical properties were measured according to BS Standard (CEN/TS15534–1:2007). Results showed that the withdrawal strengths of nails and screws, flexural strength (MOE), modulus strength (MOR) were decreased as MDF dust volume increased. Also, with increasing short glass fibers content, resistances were decreased. Maximum mechanical resistances were obtained in the control treatments (0% short glass fiber).
